You can share one of your entire screen or a specific application window with your Rainbow contacts. Sharing behaves like an audio/video call (WebRTC) and you can activate a microphone to converse with your caller. You can only share your screen from your computer. Mobile apps (iOS, Android) can only receive the share, not send it.
NOTE: The installation of an extension is required to share a screen from the "Chrome" browser. This installation will be automatically offered to you during your first screen share.
RESTRICTION: Screen sharing is not available from the "Mozilla Firefox" browser. Please use the desktop application or the "Chrome" browser to use this feature.
How to share my screen?
Open a conversation with a Rainbow user or find the desired person, in your "Contacts"
At the top of the page, click on the "Share a screen or an application" icon (1).
The drop-down menu allows you to launch a screen share on its own or with an audio call.A share can be launched on its own and escalated into an audio call afterwards.
You can choose to share the entirety of your screen or a specific application window (2). Once you have made your choice, simply click on "Share" to start the call (3).
When sharing a screen, an icon appears on your caller's avatar (4). A banner reminding you of the current share is also displayed as an overlay on your screen.
To finish the share, you simply have to click on the "Stop sharing the screen" icon (5).
A simple share can be escalated into a video call with the action buttons (5).
Once the audio call is activated, it is possible to end the share and add the video (6). The options of an audio call/standard video are available though. These options are presented in a dedicated article.
NOTE: The desktop application allows you to share one of your entire screen. It does not allow you to select a specific application window.
