Activate and Use the Push to Talk Option

Want to activate your microphone only when you speak? Set up the push to talk option to control your microphone with a keyboard shortcut. You will be able to be muted by default and activate your microphone every time you speak.

Tips: This feature allows people in a noisy environment to activate only their microphone when they speak.

Activate the push to talk option

You can activate the push to talk option from your settings. You can choose a key on your keyboard to use this option. You can define the time you need to press (activation delay) this key to use the option.

1. Click on your Avatar on the left menu of your screen.
2. In the menu, choose " Settings" and click on " Audio/Video" to open the config page.
3. Click on the " Enable Push to Talk" button to activate the option.
4. Use the slider to set the activation time. This allows you not to activate the microphone for example when your shortcut is used when you type a message.  
5. Then click on the "Shortcut " box to choose the key to use for this option.
6. Once the border of the box turns red, you can press the chosen key on your keyboard.
7. the new shortcut is now displayed in the insert. You can close the window by clicking on the "Close" button.

Manage Push to Talk notifications

You can activate a tone each time the push to talk option is triggered.

1. Click on your Avatar on the left menu of your screen.
2. In the menu, choose " Settings" and click on " Notifications" to open the config page.
3. Click on the " Play a tone when Push to Talk is triggered" button to activate the notification.

Use the Push to Talk option

You can use the push to talk option during your Web Calls, Web Conferences or Phone Calls.

1. To use the push to talk option, make sure you are muted.
2. At any time, press and hold the key you have configured (in our example the shortcut key is A) to activate your microphone.
3. You just have to stop holding the key to reactivate the mute mode.

Warning: If you are using the Web application, the Rainbow tab must be active on the screen for the push to talk option to work (from another Rainbow Conversation for example). With the Desktop application, you can use this option from anywhere (from another application for example).
