Make a phone call

This article is intented for Rainbow users making phone calls from their company deskphone.

The deskphone must be associated to your Rainbow user account and connected to the communication server of your company (i.e. Cloud PBX in Rainbow). For supported deskphones and their minimun software version, refer to the CURRENT VERSIONS section in News & Update.

The different ways to make a phone call are:

• Calling by the number
• Calling by the name
• Calling from call log
• Calling from personal directory
• Calling using speed dial key

Make a phone call by number or name requires to open first the dialer on deskphone: see: Opening the dialer.

Opening the dialer

To open the dialer, perform any of the following:

• Pick up the handset or headset if connected ()
• Dial the first digit of number using the numeric keypad ()
• Press the loudspeaker key

Calling by number

To call a contact by number, perform one of the following:

• From the dialer, dial the number using the numeric keypad.
  For an external call, dial the outside line access code followed by the contact number.
  The call is immediately launched.
• If present in the list of the last dialed numbers, select the target number and press the OK key or Call softkey.

Calling by name

The contact name is searched in the company phone book. 

To call a contact by name:

1. From the dialer, press the abc key to switch to the alphabetical keyboard.
2. Enter the first letters of the contact name.
   The search starts as soon as first letters are entered (predictive search). the matching names are displayed.
3. Use the navigation keys to select the target contact.
4. Press the OK key or Call softkey.

Calling from call log

The contact is searched in your call log. 

To call a contact from call log:

1. From the home page, press the softkeys: Menu > History to access call log.
2. Use the navigation keys to select the target contact.
3. Press the OK key or Call softkey.

Calling from personal directory

A contact can be called from your personal directory, if defined.

To call a contact from your personal directory:

1. From the home page, press the softkeys: Menu > Directory to access personal directory.
2. Use the navigation keys to select the target contact.
3. Press the OK key or Call softkey.

Calling using speed dial key

Speed dial keys must have be programmed for your deskphone with your favorite contacts or contacts defined by your company administrator. To configure your own speed dial keys, refer to the business guide available from MyPortal website.

Speed dial keys are identified by the icon .

From the home page, press the softkey Menu and the speed dial key associated to the target contact.

The call is immediately launched.
