Suggested Features from a previous OpenTouch Customer
Dear Sirs
Recently we changed one of our customers from OpenTouch to OXE with Rainbow Enteprise edition. This customer has the following suggestions:
After a long time using ALU Opentouch, I provide you my personal thoughts by comparing with Rainbow I switched recently.
Rainbow advantages:
- Nice and light user interface on all available platforms meaning: Windows PC, Mac and Smartphones IOS/Android
- Stable connectivity and performance on ALU Cloud
- Easier deployment only with OXE VMs and SBCs
Rainbow disadvantages:
- There is no automatic switching feature between GSM and Voip like on Opentouch
- There is no “Get Call” feature between devices deskphone, smartphone, PC etc
- There is no specialized application for IPAD. The experience of an application designed for Iphone does not match to Ipad environment although it can be installed
- Parallel or serial ringing between PC with VOIP and Smartphone with GSM (meaning Closed Data) is not available. Actually Opentouch has the ability to use Data Connectivity only for signalling and CLID, but media via GSM. In Rainbow if somebody logout the smartphone application with VOIP activated, then incoming calls doesn’t switch automatically to GSM so the end user is very easy to lose calls or because the data program limit has been expired
- There is no capability for Teleconference rooms with a national Greek number or with an OXE number from our instance like Opentouch
- There is no capability for switching between GSM and Voip on an active call without hang up the active call like Opentouch. It was a very useful feature in Opentouch, by meaning a perfect solution in poor or congested data networks
- Searching contacts from other Rainbow companies is not something everybody likes, although an invitation and user approval is needed
- 8088 user interface is not friendly like Opentouch 8088 and Rainbow seems to be a different application in the same device
- Integration with MS Teams in not the best. By installing Rainbow connector you have to make calls only from MS Teams, because the native Rainbow for PC application stop to respond. Also Rainbow contacts are not available on MS Teams
Finally in both platforms meaning Opentouch and Rainbow there is an important missing feature or bug:
As you know many smartphones users have dual sim devices. So assuming the following conditions:
- The user uses sim1 only for data and sim2 only for calls
- The user has setup sim2 number on Opentouch or Rainbow for callback and GMS incoming calls
- The user has not activated VOIP on Opentouch or Rainbow
Then during an incoming call to the user, there is no CLI from the application [Opentouch or Rainbow] because the application seems to be able to use data SIM for CLI signalling only if is the same SIM assigned to the application for Voice calls.
Finally I think that Rainbow is in the right direction and with all optimization I described It could be a competitive product for the UC Market. As next step I also proposed richer teamwork features such as spaces, channels and customs users and teams notifications that somebody can find on Slack or MS Teams. Of course Bubbles is a good start but needs also to be richer avoiding on the other hand Rainbow to be a complicate and heavy application.
