video and audio bandwidth & path
Hi
Customer are asking about the needed bandwidth for an audio and a video call in order to understand the impact on their Internet access.
We measured around 120 kbps for an audio call and 1300 kbps for a video call. Do you agree?
If you have two PC on the same LAN, having a call with each other, what about the data path ? Does the conversation stay on the LAN or do we have two calls toward internet ?
Regards,
Michel

I would also like a bit more information on the bandwidth requirements as well, as customers are asking this question. Based on the information in the Rainbow Network requirements document its states that Voice uses 80kbps (nominal) and video uses 350kbps(nominal). This is less than what Michel is experiencing in their tests.
Based on what is in the document, a 5 min Audio call would require a bandwidth of 24meg and a 5 min video call would require 105meg. Is this correct?
According to information I have found on line - Facebook Messenger Video uses about 22meg after 5 min & Whats App uses 26meg for 5 min of video. Are we using 4 times the bandwidth for a 5 min video call?
Any information would be helpful.
